Modern Firewalls and Internet security
Duration:
2 day - workshop
Target group:
Technical people with an interest in networks, firewalls, web
servers, security. Knowledge of firewalls is not required, but some
knowledge about TCP/IP will be necessary.
Goals:
Inform the participants of common threats and activity in the
Internet area, while proposing the idea of how an advanced modern
firewall could be configured.
Contents:
Firewalls are but on of the technical guards which today is being
used to counter the threats from the Internet. In this workshop the
threats and scenarios are covered to teach the participants about
strong and weak aspects of a firewall. The idea by using the workshop
method is to show examples of attacks and how a firewall can be
configured to counter these. The examples are being shown using the
OpenBSD packet filter, which in syntax is very similar to IPF - which
can be used on many UNIX platforms. Main focus will be the principles
and terms used in TCP/IP and can therefore be used immediately for
implementing firewalls using any other products later.
Remember that a firewall does not protect against everything, but can
give good protection for some threats.
